Marriage by Design

I had the honor of designing the full print suite for my sister and brother-in-law’s wedding, which was held at a Tuscan-inspired venue that perfectly set the scene for a springtime celebration. For the big day, I created save-the-dates, invitations, and day-of signage that were all handcrafted to reflect the couple’s joyful, vibrant style.

Concept & Inspiration

The Oliver’s wedding drew inspiration from the charm of Italy in springtime. We collaborated to choose a rainbow-inspired color palette that evoked the idea of wildflowers blooming across the season. The dress Bailey wore in her engagement photos even inspired one of the colors in the palette.

For the designs, my goal was to create an organic, layered, and textural experience. The moodboard to the right shows my inspiration for using multiple paper types, colorful envelopes, and script fonts to achieve that effect.

Save the Dates & Invitations

Designing the stationery was where the vision truly came together. The save-the-dates were printed on matte cardstock with hand-torn edges to create an organic, softly frayed feel. The invitations featured two layers of linen paper, each hand-cut and wrapped in a vellum jacket. The top layer is an oval featuring their engagement photos and a thin, yet bubbly script. This oval shape was echoed on the sheet beneath, a rounded-edge rectangle featuring all the event information.

The two sheets and vellum jacket were finally sealed with a wax “O” representing the couple’s soon-to-be shared last name. The bride wanted plenty of colorful flowers featured in the designs to set the tone for the entire celebration.

Designs for the Big Day

On the wedding day, I made sure everything was both functional within the space and cohesive with the earlier designs. Table numbers, the seating chart, place cards, and a variety of wayfinding and informational signs were all printed on matte paper and often finished with torn edges similar to the save-the-dates. The consistent typography, light floral accents, and balanced color scheme tied the wayfinding and décor together.

Seeing the designs come to life in the space and watching guests interact with them was an incredibly rewarding moment.
